It was a cloud covered, windy day in October when I photographed Aubrey’s newborn session. The overcast sky provided the perfect indoor light for intimate captures of little Aubrey and her beautiful mother, Alexa. I was absolutely smitten with Aubrey’s fluff of strawberry-blonde hair and kept making references to Pretty in Pink when photographing her in her velvet, pink bow.

When photographing in the homes of my clients, finding the right light can be tricky, but once I’ve found it I’m determined to make it work. Laying eyes on their beautifully lit staircase, I knew I had to capture some of their moments there. Do families typically hang out in their stairwell holding their new babies and stoically staring out their windows? Probably not, but as atypical as it was for Alexa to stand on those stairs with a week-old baby, she trusted my process and we were able to capture some of the most intimate and stunning images of this season in their life. Our time together was like a breath of fresh air—relaxed and unfolding naturally and I’m so grateful for the opportunity to document this special time for them.
