A Must See Documentary: My Last Days

The Schultzes

Two nights ago as I followed the online news coverage of the Oklahoma tornados, I found my way into the life of Zach Sobiech.  Zach – a barely 18 year old kid who had just that day passed away – had a story that moved me to tears and inspired me to live a fuller life…a life focused on others….a life with real meaning and one that I won’t take for granted.
After I had Geoff watch the video, he too was a mess of tears.  I asked him to write down a few thoughts of his response so we could share the documentary. Truly, it is a must see.

Written by Geoff:

There is no doubt that God speaks to us in different ways.  The Bible, the convictions of the Holy Spirit, prayer, people in our lives, our own life experiences and through the experiences of others.  It becomes quite clear that He’s speaking to you when you start to see a common theme appear in several of these categories within a short period of time.

When I heard the story of Zach Sobiech through the documentary below and learned of the way he approached life each day, God’s message for me was clear:
“your heart has hardened.”
Not the kind of hard that most people would think, however.  Not the “life sucks, I hate everyone around me, there’s no hope for me” kind of hard.  The kind of hard that seeps into your everyday life and shows itself in a more subtle way.
I’ve always been really excited about planning for the future in life, my work with our church and in this business.  This isn’t a bad thing.  In fact, it’s important to be driven and have goals.  However, I’ve recently been convicted that while going full speed ahead toward achievement, I’ve had my head down and have been missing opportunities to love and care for people in real and practical ways.
About a week ago – through Ephesians 4:17-19 – I read that a hardened heart leads to ignorance and a loss of sensitivity, which results in separation from God and therefore, leading you to a life of indulgence and a lust for more.  I’ve gone down this road before and it’s the last place I want to let myself end up again.
And so, here is my current prayer:
God,

Help me regain a passion to bring joy into the lives of the people around me.  Help me to liftmy head up from what I need to get done each day and help me to see who you want me to share joy with each day.

Help me to regain a sensitivity to seize the opportunities you place in front of me and respond in obedience to what you are asking of me each day.

Help me to live a life of love to those around me just as Christ lived a life that expressed His love for us.

Soften my heart, God.  Amen.

Amen…Everyday is a gift. the journey is abundant with blessings if you keep your eyes and ears open to how creation, perfectly designed is always talking to you no matter what it might look like initially, sometimes it takes looking back at it from a different perspective. God has designed every step of the way in the system he created with perfection…..perfectly. Every peson in our journey is a perfect gift to be recognized as part of our learning experience. Every person has a gift to share, a lesson to give and is put in our life on purpose. We just have to walk on faith and know that these human vehicles we travel in are short term but our spirit is forever eternal….let your life’s message leaves a positive ripple on this earth for others to find hope in….and build their faith upon that the next world He has created is just unimaginable.
