Katrina of Katrina Hutchins Events. Y’all, I love this lady and our friendship. Who knew when she hired me to photograph her wedding back in 2010 that she would become such a dear and special friend…not to mention, a colleague!? I have had the pleasure of having Katrina in front of my camera many times through the years, so I thought it would be fun to reminisce a little! Believe it or not, I have even MORE shoots that aren’t even up on the blog! 🙂

I also thought it would be fun for Katrina to answer a few questions about her family and business. Enjoy!

1) Tell us a bit about yourself, your family and your company.
I’m Katrina Hutchins! I started KHE in 2011 on a hope and prayer that one client would give me a chance. With a lot of encouragement, hard work and amazing people cheering me along, I got the one client and the rest is history! I love my job and am so thankful that I’m able to do what I do. I am a mom to two wild boys, Callahan (3) and Row (2). I’m married to Hutch, my CFO and #1 fan and am so thankful for his support with my business.

2) How did you get into wedding planning?
As absolutely cliche as it sounds, I loved MY wedding planning process. Once it was over, I missed it and turned it in to a business. Crazier things have happened, and I encourage anyone to TRY if their heart is in it!

3) What is your favorite part of the planning process?
My client relationships. So many of them become friends–it’s the absolute best.

4) What is one of your favorite local venues and why?
Anywhere I can drop a tent. A tent provides a completely blank space that allows me to design unique events for my clients.

5) What is your favorite song played at receptions?
“Yeah” by Usher–I love hip hop music and it truly NEVER gets old! ha!

6) What is your best piece of advice for a newly engaged bride as she begins the planning process?
Hire a planner. Find it in your budget. Hire someone with experience and that you click with. You won’t regret it!

7) What should a bride look for when choosing her wedding planner?
Experience, references and an overwhelming ‘click’ that it’s the right personality for you and whoever will be involved in planning. There is nothing wrong with loving someones work but not jiving with their personalities–find the one you do jive with. You spend a LOT of time with your planner!

8) What is one piece of advice you would give to someone wanting to become a wedding planner?
Be prepared to work REALLY hard. Harder than you think you’ll ever have to. So much of what I do is answer emails and phone calls–the ‘fun’ stuff is such a small portion of what we actually do (cake tastings, floral meetings etc)…so know going in to it it takes a lot of hard work behind a computer screen :).
